Bubbles in assets with finite life∗

چکیده
We study the speculative value of a finitely lived asset when investors disagree and short sales are limited. In this case, investors are willing to pay a speculative value for the resale option they obtain when they acquire the asset. We characterize the equilibrium speculative value as a solution to a fixed point problem for a monotone operator F. A Dynamic Programming Principle applies and is used to show that the minimal solution to the fixed-point problem is a viscosity solution of a naturally associated (non-local) obstacle problem. This obstacle type free boundary problem was the focus of Berestycki et al. (2014), who proved a comparison principle and existence and uniqueness of the viscosity solution. Combining the monotonicity of the operator F and the comparison principle we obtain several comparison of solution results. We also use the characterization of the exercise boundary of the obstacle problem to study the effect of an increase in the costs of transactions on the value of the bubble and on the volume of trade, and in particular to quantify the effect of a small transaction (Tobin) tax. Rational Equilibrium Asset-Pricing Bubbles in Continuous Trading Models
We study rational equilibrium asset-pricing bubbles in an economic environment in which agents are allowed to trade continuously, including as special cases some models from financial economics. For positive net supply assets, we present new necessary and sufficient conditions for the absence of bubbles in complete and incomplete markets equilibria with several types of borrowing constraints. F...
متن کاملPrice Bubbles Spillover among Asset Markets: Evidence from Iran
T his paper investigates the existence of possible spillover effects among four main asset markets namely foreign exchange, stock, gold, and housing markets in Iran from 2002:03 to 2015:06. For this purpose, we have exploited Sigma-Point Kalman Filter (SPKF) to extract the bubble component of assets prices in the aforementioned Markets. Then, in order to analyze the price bubbles spi...
متن کاملRational Asset Pricing Bubbles and Debt Constraints
Rational price bubble arises when the price of an asset exceeds the asset’s fundamental value, that is, the present value of future dividend payments. The important result of Santos and Woodford (1997) says that price bubbles cannot exist in equilibrium in the standard dynamic asset pricing model with rational agents facing borrowing constraints as long as assets are in strictly positive supply...
متن کاملOn Reaching for Yield and the Coexistence of Bubbles and Negative Bubbles1
We develop a model of financial intermediation characterized by an inside agency problem such that asset managers, when they have access to high enough liquidity, “reach for yield” by overinvesting in risky assets and concurrently underinvesting in safer or medium-risk assets. The managers follow a pecking order whereby their first preference is to invest in risky assets; their second preferenc...

The bubble of Asset Price is the deviation of the asset price from its fundamental value. Since the many of the financial crisis arise from bursting bubble of financial assets, the explore of bubble behaviors in these markets and the early detection for the prevention of adverse economic consequences is important. Considering the criticisms of conventional tests for detecting price bubbles and ...

This approach is able to avoid parasitic currents and leads to a stable procedure t...
